Water's Edge
if I've got to be sad, I'd like to be sad at the beach
If I've got to be sad, I'd like to be sad at the beach since there's no better place to be than by the water, sand at my feet and even when I close my eyes, I see the glint of sun on blue. Run down to the water's edge let the waves lap at my feet. Stumble back up to the drop off sand in my flip-flops to tell Rach all my fears. Let the ocean inspire, let the sun take me higher. If I've got to be blue, I'd like to be blue on a patio since there's no better place to be than with a cold drink in my hand my words running fast as I tell myself not to complain. We're sitting by the water she takes my breath away. Take another sip, let my mind start to wander and he listens to me, he listens to everything I say, just like I always dreamed. If I've got to wonder at life's mysteries, I'd like to wonder in the summer since there's no better time to be than on a bench near the sand, eating ice cream. Let it melt on my tongue as we duck footballs. Let my mind melt into sweet, caramel-flavoured dreams. It's all so pretty that I start to believe life is with reason even if I may never understand everything that happens to me even if I can't decide what flavour I want some days. So I turn to Rach, tell her the truth about me. Life is beautiful, now I see. Life is beautiful enough that I can be blue on the beach but what God gave me, I was given to share and now I believe. So I hope and I dream I think of you coming back to me though I can't tell the future only that it's supposed to reach thirty degrees this week and the best time to hope and dream and wonder is surely, surely, in the summer.
